Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, met with Jesus Lamas, SLB ‘s Regional President, accompanied by Sherif Bayoumy, the company’s General Manager for Egypt and the Eastern Mediterranean. The meeting focused on the petroleum sector’s six core strategic pillars, emphasizing expanded exploration, development projects, and increased oil and natural gas production. The pivotal role of SLB as a strategic partner in initiatives like the Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG) and regional seismic surveys in the Red Sea and Gulf of Suez was reviewed.
The meeting was attended by Samir Raslan, Undersecretary for Exploration and Agreements at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources; and Mohamed Radwan Vice President for Exploration at Ganoub El Wadi Petroleum Holding Company’s (Ganope) and Director of the Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG) Project.
The Minister highlighted the EUG as a modern digital platform crucial for attracting investments by showcasing promising opportunities across various geological basins. He pointed to the recently announced investment opportunities from the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), and Ganope, all actively promoted via the EUG. SLB partnered with the Ministry of Petroleum to launch EUG, which centralizes exploration data and promotes bid rounds to global investors.
Both sides also discussed bolstering cooperation on several key projects. This included the Red Sea seismic survey project and its upcoming marketing activities, as well as the potential for new seismic surveys in the Gulf of Suez using Ocean Bottom Nodes (OBN) technology. They also explored collaborative efforts on mature field redevelopment projects, a top priority for boosting production in the near future, and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) initiatives. Furthermore, the meeting covered coordinating various technical workshops to support ongoing petroleum activities.
